Pattiyal revolves round the life of two friends.

ON A FRIENDLY NOTE: `Pattiyal.'
Where in Chennai is Mattan Kuppam? It doesn't exist, except for the residents of that area and the beat postman. Now, when a producer/director needs a particular kind of location he leaves no stone unturned to find it. And the assistants make sure that the boss gets what he wants. Thus when director Vishnuvardhan ("Arindhum Ariyamalum") wanted a rustic locale within the city, the production manager went on a quest and came to Triplicane, to find Mattan Kuppam, a maze where it is easy to get lost.
S.G. Films "Pattiyal" was mainly shot in Mattan Kuppam and in some other places in Pondicherry and Coimbatore. One reaches the shooting spot after carefully picking one's way through the labyrinthine network of streets.
There is hardly any space for the camera in the ramshackle affair resembling more a cowshed than a room.
The main cast Bharath, Arya, Pooja and Padmapriya were seated around a table engrossed in conversation. Satisfied, the director breaks off with ``Cut."
"It is a story about two friends and their emotions. Pattiyal, literally means list and here it is a list of events happening in their life. I am happy I got two really good friends Bharath and Arya. They have become inseparable so much so that it doesn't seem acting anymore. When they are not before the camera they take off on a bike, one riding pillion. This happened quite often in Pondicherry and Coimbatore."
Bharath's ladylove is Pooja while Padmapriya is cast opposite Arya.
Stunt scenes
Bharat looked sun tanned. "They made me dark for the role and I am happy that I am doing this film. Arya and I have done some wonderful stunt scenes, all real and no graphics. Stunt master Thygarajan was quite careful with those scenes," he said.
Arya is convinced that he is on the right track. "All the technicians who worked for `Arindum Ariyalum' have been retained for `Pattiyal,'" he said.
"Bharat is the new entrant but he blended very well with the unit. With each of us assigned an important role, I feel the film has come out in a big way. It is sure to be a hit as all of us have worked hard and the director has done a very good job not only as scriptwriter but also as director," he added.
The cast includes Kochin Hannifa, Mohan Natrajan, and Goutham (Major Sundararajan's son).
Nirav Shah handles camera, Yuvan Shanker Raja takes care of the music and Srikar Prasad does the editing. The film is produced by `Punnagai Poo' Geetha.
