Crossing language barriers

Writer-poet Paaranandi Nirmala felicitated.

Sahridaya Saahithi, a noted literary body organised a discourse on `Translation-A Means of Fostering Friendship' recently . Many a litterateur, D.Lalithakumari, Ponnada Kumar, Kosana , Ramtheertha, R.N.Sarma and the likes including the Sahithi's president L.R.Swaamy who chaired the session, and secretary Sekharamantri Prabhakar Rao spoke. Besides establishing translation as the only and best means of fostering friendship, they also highlighted its role achieving better global understanding and religious harmony.

Noted writer-poet, Paaranandi Nirmala who is also popularly known for her works of translation , was felicitated on the occasion. Born in Tuni in 1951 to Rachakonda Anantha Padmanabha Sarma and Subhadra Devi, Nirmala obtained M.A. in Hindi not only from Andhra but also from the Kanpur University besides B.Ed. from Dharbhanga and Sahitya Ratna from Allahabad Universites. She is also a holder of POL and Sangeetha Prabhakara titles and Diploma in Translation from Andhra University.

Today, Nirmala is credited with 60 stories and 80 poetic works in Hindi, 35 stories and five poetic works in Telugu besides many a critique as well on works like Dada Rahi, Kartoon Patra and more. She is equally reputed for translations, 250 novels, 120 short stories, 300 poems and verses in Telugu into Hindi and 85 short stories from Hindi into Telugu besides her own books in Telugu into Hindi, English into both Telugu and Hindi and vice versa. Her stories, poems and short plays were also broadcast by AIR as well.

No wonder, many an award and felicitation addresses from Andhra Jyothi, Dakshin Hindi Prachara Sabha, Visakha Hindi Parishat, Visakha Hindi Sevi Saman and many a literary body like Spandana Sahithi, Jaimini Academy (Panipat and Puri) and so on came her way. The samman by the Central Hindi Directorate, Ministry of Human Resources and Development, along with a purse of Rs.25, 000 speaks volumes of her calibre both as a creative writer and a prudent translator.
