TRIBUTE Janaki Subramaniam will sing from her collection of Ashram Bhajanavali on January 30
The eminent artiste Janaki Subramaniam's devotion and dedication to the ideals of the Mahatma is best seen in her Ashram Bhajanavali, a recording of some of her great bhajans sung in tribute to the Mahatma. The bhajans span a period of five decades. The cassette and CD, which will be released here on January 30 at the Kannada Bhavan, J.C. Road, has very popular bhajans like "Isha vasyam", "Eka Dasa vrath", "Vaishnava Janato", followed by "Vande Matharam", "Bhajamana Ramacharana Sukhadayi" (Tulasi Das) "Hey Govinda" (Surdas), "Hari Thum Raho" (Mira Bai), "Nama Japana" (Khalas), "Jeeni Jeeni Beeni" (Kabir Das), "Ram Kah Rehaman" (Ananda Dutt), "Rama Simira" (Guru Nanak), "Ananda Loke" (Bengali Bhajan) and Lead Kindly Light in a beautiful choir prayer (church music).
The Akshaya Academy on the occasion of Sarvodaya Day and in homage to the Mahatma has organised prayer, praises and psalms from the veda and nada for universal peace and harmony and the rendering of bhajans from the Ashram Bhajanavali besides the rendering of Thyagaraja kritis on January 30 at Nayana auditorium, 10.30 a.m. onwards. The recital will feature Uma Naresh on the vocals, T.S. Krishnamurthy (violin), M.A. Krishnamurthy (mridangam), Vageesha Bhat (harmonium) and Rajendra Nakod (tabla).
Y.K. Muddukrishna, President, Karnataka Sugama Sangeetha Parishath, will be the chief guest. The programme is dedicated to Tyagaratna Bengaluru Nagaratnamma, the architect of Sri Tyagaraja Samadhi, Tiruvaiyaru.
