STICKING TO TRADITION: Participants of Kolkali.
It was a colourful cultural fiesta that brought students from all across Kerala to Thalassery. For four days, the town was turned into a venue for music and dance and different art forms.
It was business as usual in the Thalassery town that hosted the four-day State Higher Secondary School Youth Festival. When the curtain fell on the fete attended by nearly 3,000 higher secondary students from across Kerala, there was hardly any major grievances to overshadow the cultural extravaganza.
The new grading system also left more youngsters happy with more than one participant emerging with A, B, or C grade in most of the 93 items in which competitions were held.
There were more than a dozen A grade winners in some of the stage items.
As many as 647 participants secured A grade in the competitions, 421 came out with B grade and 95 with C grade. There were some items in which all the participants scored the A grade.
Main venues
The main venues at the municipal stadium and BEMP School witnessed stage items such as dance and drama programmes.
Participants in Kerala Nadanam, folk dance, group dance, Thiruvathirakkali and classical dances maintained high standards.
The themes of the dramas performed by the students reflected contemporary issues.
The winning of the overall championship by the Ernakulam district was not wholly unexpected as young talents from the district continued their winning streak from the very beginning of the event.
