CULTURE COOL Usha Nangiar.
Kudiattamm an age-old traditional Kerala dance form is distinct in every aspect. This is mainly a Sanskrit dance and drama form with colourful costumes, striking head gear and ornaments and is still a popular treat for Keralites, particularly those who love traditional art forms.
Sidhardha Kala Peetham a premier cultural organisation in Vijayawada which has its own spacious auditorium Sidhardha Auditorium, presented this rare dance-drama directed by Usha Nangiar an internationally recognised exponent of Kudiattam hailing from Chattakudam in Trissoor district, Kerala, superbly directed the dance drama. The cast also included Usha Nangiar and Kapila. V.K.K. Hariharan, Kalamandalam Rajiv, Kishore, Kalanilayam Unnikrishnan and Aparna Nangiyar provided excellent musical support. The dominating rhythm instrument was the traditional Chanda of Kathakali form. The episode taken for the dance drama was the Soorphanakhankam picked from the classic Ascharya Choodamani.
The dancer who played the role of Soorphanakha showed great involvement in her performance.
