MINI ANTHIKAD-CHHIBBER

Nimbus is set to conquer the skies with four new shows this year

LAUGH RIOT Kareena Kareena is immensely popular

Just when you thought you had seen the last of reality shows, comes the news that Nimbus Television is introducing two new reality shows this year.

"Last year there was an overkill of reality shows," Mautik Tolia, creative director Nimbus Films and Television says. "Fiction rules the roost this year. I would say it would be 75 per cent fiction and 25 per cent reality shows. Now the time is ripe for niche reality shows, which is why we at Nimbus have come with a sports-based reality show. We are also coming up with a reality show, 100, which would be different from the current crop of shows."

Tolia is of the opinion that sports is another area which would emerge. "Nimbus is a major force in sports broadcasting. With the World Cup coming up, there is a market for sports. So we have a sports based soap in the pipeline." While Tolia admits that cricket continues to reign supreme, he says: "Football is gaining precedence."

Tolia insists: "Saas Bahu serial will stay forever. Comedy is another emerging genre and in Kareena Kareena we have introduced dramedy, which is comedy meets drama. This year we have the second season of Kareena... and there is also a new series, Beta."

Tolia is proud of Nimbus' showing at the Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards this year. "We got four nominations (best comedy, actor, song and best sports programme for the Challenger Trophy).

Nimbus has done fairly well in telly town with 15 serials on air on different channels. With its new programmes and also international tie-ups to produce in Tolia's words, "crossover content," Nimbus is all set to soar!
