Obeisance to Tyagaraja

GRAND AFFAIR: Musicians including K. Vageesh, Station Director, All India Radio, Tiruchi, B. Shivakumar and Champa Kalkura singing Pancharatna kritis.
Sri Rama Gana Sabha, Tiruchi, conducted Tyaga Brahma Akhandam on January 26 at Bala Kala Vidhanam. Champa Kalkura, Saroja Nagarajan and Seetha Krishnamurthy started the Akhandam with a Tyagaraja kriti on Ganesha, while Padmanabhan, Ganesan and other members of the sabha joined them. Obeisance was paid to the divine composer, considered to be an avatar of Narada.
Karaikkudi Sankara Iyer and Coimbatore Ramakrishna Bhagavathar presented a Harikatha on Tyagaraja. Vageesh, Station Director, All India Radio, Tiruchi, and veena Vidwan B. Shivakumar, AIR artiste, enthralled the audience with their performances.
While Mukhyaprana rendered Tyagaraja kritis on the flute, Vasantha played the violin. The percussion artistes were Ravikumar, Kopu Nagarajan, and Deenadayalan.
The group led by Dr. Vageesh, B. Shivakumar and Champa Kalkura, sang the pancharatna kritis with traditional fervour. Young musicians from Tiruchi gave a good account of themselves. The function came to a close with offerings to Anjaneya.
