The two-day long Sitar Samaroh held in the city was a treat to music lovers.

Music Lovers' Association and Thygaraya Gana Sabha conducted a two-day Sitar Samaroh at their mini theatre on February 1 and 2.
The Sitar Samaroh was organised for the third year in a row and many new players were introduced.
Bapuji Shyam Sunder, reputed sitar maestro of the twin cities, inaugurated the festival. The first day's programme started with J. Satish Theodore playing raag, and Shyam Kalyan. He was accompanied by Rishikesh on the tabla. This was followed by Raag Jaijaivanthi played by Shireesha Rao. Both the artistes, though young, showed a lot of promise. The third performance was by a group of three sitarists - Sanjeev Pawar, S. Narender, Mahender and Shilpa. They played Raag Kedar.
The show stealer of the day was S. Keerti of Nizamabad, a visually challenged young girl, whose determination to succeed despite all odds showed in her performance. She played Raag Sri and won wide appreciation from the audience. The second day's programme began with Sampada Udrikar's performance with Raag Rageshri. Sampada was accompanied by Lakshmikant Katti on the tabla. This performance was followed by that of P. Deepthi Ramana, a disciple of Ustad Basheer Ahmed khan, who presented Raag Yaman and a Bengali folk song. She was accompanied by Gajendra Shewalkar on the tabla.
Sitarist Jaweed Lateefi and tabla artist P. Ambaji Rao were honoured on the occasion. Though the audience did not turn out in large numbers, it was heartening to see them pay attention to the performances.
