Hareesh Narayan pays tribute to his guru Chembai Sreenivasa Bhagavatar with a concert.



GLOWING TRIBUTES:Hareesh Narayan pays homage to his guru.

Chembai Sreenivasa Bhagavatar lives and breathes Carnatic music. A renowned Carnatic musician who hails from the Chembai tradition, he is a disciple Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar. Sreenivasa was recently given the title `Nada Chandrika' by Swathy Sangeetha Sabha, Palakkad.

A concert was held in this connection to honour him. Sreenivasa's disciple Hareesh Narayan started the concert with an Adi tala varnam of Thiruvottiyoor Thyagayyar in Raga Kedara Goula `Sami Dayajooda.' A brief rendition of the raga Natta was followed by `Rakhasamam Saranagatham' set to Adi talam with manodharma swaras, which was well received by the audience.

Melodious

His melodious and classical rendition of `Yadukulakambogi' followed by the Chowkakala kriti `Karuna Cheyvanenthuthamasam Krishna' of Irayimman Thampi dedicated to Lord Guruvayurappan struck a chord with the audience.

A fast number `Paramapurusham' of Swati Tirunal in raga `Lalitha Panchamom' set to tala `Khanda Chappu' soon followed. The song `Sudha Dhanyasi' was melodious and he captivated his listeners with a niraval `Syanandoora Nagaree' in the Swati Tirunal kriti `Samodam Chinthayami' set to Misra Chappu. The famous Tygaraja kriti `Marukelara' set in the rare raga `Jayanthasree' set to Adi talam showed his rhythm control.

The main alapana in raga Simhendra madhaymam had manodharma swaras, harmonising both the lakshya and lakshana.

The famous composition of Swati Tirunal `Ramarama Guna Seema' set to Adi tala (two-kala) was sung in a slow beat.Hareesh concluded the concert with `Enna Thavam Chreithanai' in raga `Kapi' set to Adi tala. Sivaramakrishnan on the violin and Kallekulgangara Krishnan on the mridangam provided the background score for the concert.
