Enthralling narration

Devotional recitals were organised as part of Kalyanotsavams and Siva-Parvathi Kalyanam.

MUSIC MOMENTS Sankeertana Praveena Dr. Shobha Raju recites Annamayya compositions.

Annamacharya Bhavana Vaahini, Hyderabad, under the aegis of its branch at Visakhapatnam, celebrated a two-day fete of Venkateswara Sangeetha Kalyanotsavam in the port city. It all started with Nagara Sankeerthanain the form of a procession from Sampath Vinayaka temple led by Mangalavadyam and singing of Annamacharya compositions, by the founder president of the Vahini Shobha Raju along with going through important junctions up to the Annamayya Mandapam on the beach road. A brief puja amidst Vedamanthrochharana and rendering of the compositions again for about an hour marked the fete . The Kalyanotsavam was celebrated at Gurajada Kalakshetram. An elegantly standing idol of Lord Venkateswara carved out of fibre glass specially by final year BFA students of the Andhra University Department of Fine Arts for the fete and Panchaloha vigrahas of the divine couple brought from the Naimishaaranya temple by its founder trustee Parankusam Pattabhi were special attractions. The Kalyanam was followed by rendering of Vishnu Sahasranamam by A.S.N. Sastry and his team from the Naval Dockyard.

An enthralling recital of the Sankeerthanacharya's compositions mostly by Sobharaju marked the evening. In the Sabha that followed Tallapalla H. Acharulu, the 12th generation descendant of Annamayya was felicitated.

Speaking on the occasion, Vahini Vice-Chairman Sobharaju, coodinator A.S.N. Prasad and other committee members stressed on the need of securing a site from the VUDA to build a temple on the lines of those at Dwaraka Tirumala. The fete, which attracted thousands of people from all walks of life concluded, on a grand note with Mangala Harathi.

Siva-Parvathi kalyanam

Close on the heels, celebrating the eve of Maha Sivaratri, Soundarya Lahari, a socio-cultural body founded and enviably managed with meticulous planning and execution by all women in association with Rishi Peetham (Hyderabad), started organising pravachanam by `Samanvaya Saraswathi' Saamavedam Shanmukha Sarma on Siva Tatwam this week with an objective to perform the ceremony of Siva-Parvathi Kalyanam on March 1.

Sarma, uoting the scriptures eloquently, especially the Siva Mahimni Stotram, and after a brief introduction about the other significant interpretations of the syllable Siva, concluded his talk for the day.
