Satabhisheka Mahotsavam

The pontiffs of Sri Ahobila Math, one of the oldest Vaishnava institutions, carry the same name as Lord Nrisimha — Srimad Azhagiyasingar. The present pontiff, Srimad Narayana Yatindra Mahadesika, the 45th, has combined in himself the innumerable traits of the three distinguished Srimad Azhagiyasingars who have preceded him.

Several landmark events have taken place at the Math during his time — the sixth centenary celebrations of the Math's establishment, the Tirunakshatra celebrations of the earlier pontiffs, Chaturmasya Sankalpa at Tiruvahindrapuram, the 60th anniversary of Madurantakam Veda Pathasala and of the Tamil journal, Sri Nrisimhapriya, improvement of facilities and renovation at Sri Ahobila; the fifth millennium celebrations of Sri Nammazhvar who gave the Hamsamudra to Sri Adivan Satakopa Jeeyar, the first pontiff; special renovations of the temples at Tiruvallur, Pullambhutamkudi, Adanur; and the founding of the English edition of Sri Nrisimhapriya.

Right from his poorvasrama days Srimad Azhagiya Singar has regularly given discourses, written articles in various journals and brought forth most exhaustive compendium of the do's and dont's in daily life. From January, the day of his birth-star (Tiru-Uthirattadi) is being celebrated every month in select holy places.

Celebrations

The Satabhisheka Mahotsavam (eightieth Tirunakshatra completion) will take place in December this year.

A `Satabhisheka Mahotsava Committee,' with a ten-point agenda, has been constituted to monitor the activities leading to the celebrations.
