Mudigonda Veera Bhadrayya

Nada Bharathi followed up its Pallavi singing fest with a five-day veena Mahotsav, inviting well-known veena players to perform, and called it `Sampradaya Veena Mahotsav'. Organised at the

Thyagaraya Gana Sabha with Sabha's collaboration. Marking this occasion, veena virtuoso Bandi Syamala Balasubramamniam was felicitated by K. Sivanandamurthy.. The felicitation was followed by a veena concert by Duddu Sitaramayya. He opened his concert with Bhairavi Ata Thala. Kailasanadham Bhaje in Kambhoji with Tanam was interesting. The brisk play of Nenarunchinanu in Malavi added good mood to the concert. P. V. Ramanamurthy accompanied him on mridangam.

Emani Lalitha Krishna and Mudigonda Veera Bhadrayya figured in one evening, giving concerts that lasted an hour each. Lalitha Krishna, who is also adept at playing gottu and even mandolin, began playing Darbar varnam on veena. Ninnu Joochi in Sourashtram. Neevada Ne Gaana in Saranga, were followed by delineation of Poorvi Kalyani for Parama Pavana that displayed her rich manodharma.

Mudigonda Veerabhadriah displayed a style of his own, rich in tonal quality. Hamsanadam for Bantu Reeti, Vasanta Bhairavi for Nee Daya Raada and Kamalaptakula in Brindavana Saranga added lustre to his concert. K. Krishna Prakash accompanied both these artistes on mridangam.

M. Krishna Kumari who appeared on another day began with Abhogi Varnam. Vagadheeswari (Paramatmudu Velige) was movingly played. Thodi followed Kaanada and Amritavarshini pieces as main effort. Enduku Dayaradu with Tanam and swaram was good. Ramachandran was on mridangam.

K. Subhashini Sastry another vainika who figured in the fest made Pantuvarali as main essay for which Sambho Mahadeva was a befitting number on Sivaratri. Hindolam for Neerajakshi Kamakshi was another notable presentation. K. Srinivasa Rao was on mridangam.

Ananda Rajyalakshmi who teaches veena in Hyderabad Music College also performed in the festival. Valaji varnam, Hasanandi piece Pavana Guru with swaram and Suddhadhanyasi for Himagiri Tanaye were impressive numbers from her.

Sankarabharanam was the main effort for which she played Swararagasudha with swaram. Srinivasa Gopalan was on mridangam and his Tani was interesting.
