Radha Kalyanam
Sunadham (Ph: 4215 1926) is celebrating Radha Kalyana Mahotsavam, March 10-12, at Varasiddhi Vinayagar Temple auditorium, Besant Nagar. The festival will be inaugurated by V.V.Sundaram at 6 p.m. (March 10) and T.V.Sankaranarayanan will present a vocal concert. The next day, A. V. K. Rajasimha Bagavathar will render Divyanama Sankeertanam. Radha Kalyanam will take place on March 12 at 9 a.m. Gayatri Girish will sing at 6 p.m.
Akanda Ganam
Sri Thiagaraja Sangeetha Vidwath Samajam, Mylapore, has organised Akanda Ganam by veteran musicians March 11-12. Post graduate students of Music Department, University of Madras, will render Trinity compositions on March 15 at 6.30 p.m. at the Samajam premises.
Cassette release
Smt. Mangalam Ganapathy Music Trust, Gopalapuram (Ph: 2835 0033/2435 6949) is organising a day of vocal concerts of the musician's compositions on March 15 and a cassette release function the next day at Raga Sudha Hall, Luz, Mylapore. Disciples of Chitra Madhavan, Ganamrutham Music School (5 p.m.), and Gayathri Venkataraghavan (6.30 p.m.) will give concerts.
Flute maestro N. Ramani will preside and release a CD and cassette of `Ganamrutham Vol.8' comprising the compositions of Mangalam Ganapathy on Sri Ganesha titled, `Pranavaakaaram' rendered by Sudha B. Easwaran. P. S. Narayanaswamy will receive the first copy. Sudha Easwaran will give a concert at 6.45 p.m.
Newsletter release
Vedic Sangeeta Foundation (Ph: 2499 7422) is releasing its first newsletter on Mach 16 at 6 p.m. at Tattvaloka, 138, Eldams Road, Teynampet. T. S. Narayanaswami will preside and release the first copy while Swami Satyapriyanandaji Maharaj, secretary, Ramakrishna Vidyapeeth, will receive it. Va.Ve.Su will speak followed by a brief Vedic chanting and a concert by Savitha Narasimhan. The foundation has also organised a two-day function on March 25 and 26 at Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamastanam, Dakshinamnaya Shri Sharada Peetam, Sringeri. Sri Bharati Teertha Mahaswamigal will grace the occasion.
Book of songs
A book containing 150 devotional songs in praise of Lord Aiyappan was released at Asthika Samajam, Venus Colony, Chennai, by poet Vaali recently. The compilation, stands out because many of the ten poets who have contributed to the volume are well known. They are Suki Sivam, Crazy Mohan, Ramesh Vinayakam, K. Ravi, Su. Ravi, R. Sivakumar, Valliyoor Narayanan, Suresh Babu, Ramanan and Va.Ve.Su.
At the inaugural, Ramesh Vinayakam brought his melody to verse, directing a rendition of the songs by Swethambari and others. For copies of the book, priced at Rs 75, contact: 98409 30503/98400 53452.
Music concert
The vocal concert of Charulatha Mani will be featured at Sravanam, TTD Information Centre, Venkatnarayana Road, T. Nagar, on March 12, 6 p.m.
