Garland of songs from Silappadikaram
Ceylon Sisters Vasantha and Revathy, daughters and disciples of violinist A. Sankara Iyer are coming out with their audio CDs/cassettes entitled, `Silappadikarathin Isai Aarangal Aaru.' N. Murali, president, Music Academy, will release the CD and cassette on April 9, at 10.30 a.m., at Kasturi Srinivasan Hall (mini hall), Music Academy. Musicologist V. V. Srivatsa will receive the first CD/cassette.
Vasantha and Revathy, who have been presenting music concerts for the past 30 years, have been residing in India from 1976 and both are teachers of music.
A year ago, the Thanjavur Tamil University selected six verses from `Silappadikaram' for a music competition. Vasantha composed and taught the songs to two of her students who participated in it and they emerged winners.
The six songs have now been sung by the sisters and will be released as `Silappadikarathin Isai Aarangal Aaru.'
