Music Programmes

B. Vaidyanathan from Secunderabad, son and disciple of the late V. Balasubramania Bhagavathar and presently Puranam Purushothama Sastri, presented a Carnatic Classical vocal recital at the India International Centre earlier this week. He was accompanied by K.L.N. Sastri on the violin and G. Ramachandran on mridangam.

Capital City Minstrels presented "O Happy Day", a concert for hope. It was conducted by Len Noronha at the India Habitat Centre. Punjabi Academy, Delhi presented a Festival of Traditional Music of Punjab at the IIC featuring Badar-uz-Zaman, Zamar-uz-Zaman (Pakistan), B.S. Narang, Ajit Singh and Somdutt Battu. Dwarakalaya organised a two-day Carnatic music festival at the Delhi Tamil Sangam.

The festival featured Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi (son and daugher of Lalgudi Jayaraman) and P. Unnikrishnan.

This past week also featured a Hindustani Classical musical vocal recital by Jasmeet Kaur from Jammu, disciple of Pandit Rajan and Sajan Misra. And the India Habitat Centre hosted a two-day festival presented by Naachakra Society for Dhrupad.

Dance Programmes

Young students of Shovana Narayan's Asavari, Centre for Kathak, presented innovative items in "Expressions in Rhythm", at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture. Patitpawan Kala Niketan presented `Maan Bhanjana', a traditional dance drama in Odissi at the India Habitat Centre. It was choreographed by Guru Pravesh Mohanty. Nikita Chandrashekar, disciple of Vasanthi Sridhar, presented her Bharatanatyam arangetram at the Triveni Kala Sangam this past Sunday.
