The History Channel is coming up with a series of new programmes.

The History Channel has come far since its launch some three years ago. It started off as a channel, which provided insights into the happenings of yesteryears, but with the passage of time it has tried to move from pure infotainment towards entertainment. It is important to note that in its years of existence, The History Channel has managed to win a loyal audience and has established itself virtually as the owner of the history theme.

"We are looking to make The History Channel more relevant and entertaining in alignment with its viewers," says Nikhil Mirchandani, Managing Director, The History Channel He adds that the channel with its new tagline `Live The Story' will try to bring alive a viewing experience which will be unique, inspirational and also entertaining.

From Rome to Hitler to Helen of Troy to Spartacus, the history channel is going to explore the wide gamut of history without being restricted by formats. So soon there would be feature films and short films on the channel.

The History Channel has often been viewed as a channel focusingthe Western history and the contents are moresuited for viewing in the West. However, Joy Bhattacharya, Senior Vice President Programming, The History Channel says now documentaries and serials related to the Indian Freedom Struggle and the people associated with it are also included in the programming . "Also, the History Channel is providing for the option of high quality versioning for its viewers in India."

Commenting upon the new programming that will be on screen from May, Joy says the audiences would now be able to live the story while watching Martin Sheen, Omar Sharif and Daniel Craig enacting some of the most popular characters and stories through history.

He adds, "It is imperative to note that these programmes have been bought by The History Channel from various studios across the world. There is a concerted effort to provide the viewer with more interesting and entertaining programming without actually deviating from the unique history theme."
