Felicitation
Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India (ABHAI) has organised a felicitation function on May 14 at Mylapore Fine Arts Club, at 6.05 p.m. Kalaimamani awardees and Sangeet Natak Academy awardees will be felicitated. Kunnakudy Vaidyanathan will be the chief guest and Sudharani Raghupathy, the guest of honour.
Bhajan classes
Shree Prakash Cultural Heritage Research Centre, R. A. Puram is conducting free summer classes in devotional music every Saturday, 4.30-6 p.m. Mallikarjun Rao will teach compositions of Kabir, Tulsi, Tyagaraja, Annamacharya, Brahmendra and also traditional music at 23/12, Ice House, Triplicane.
Harikatha
Asthika Samajam, Thiruvanmiyur, has organised Harikatha on `Lakshmana Sakthi' to be rendered by Thanjavur Kamalamurthy. The event will be held at Amarabharathi, 12, West Tank Street, Thiruvanmiyur on May 13, 6.30 p.m. For details contat 2452 1955.
Float festival
The float festival (Theppotsavam) of Sri Prasanna Venkatachalapthi Perumal Temple, Gunaseelam, Tiruchi District, will be celebrated on May 13. The Moolavar Muthangi Sevai will be from 6 to 9 p.m.
The Sahasra Deepalankara Sevai at 7 p.m. will be followed with the deities of the Lord and his Consort adorning the float at 8 p.m. `Kannaadi Arai Sevai' will be at 10 p.m.
Garland of verses
``Tirumalai Tiruvandhadi" is a slim volume of 101 verses in Tamil dedicated to the deity of the Seven Hills, as the title indicates. Ilanagar Kanchinathan has expressed his devotion in simple style. ``Feelings, rightly, get the priority rather than grammar and technique," observes K.A.Manavalan, retired Professor of Tamil, D.G.Vaishnav College, in his foreword.
This is the third effort from Kanchinathan, who is the author of ``Raghavendrarin Arulmazhai" and ``Paranthamanai Ninaithapadi."
The book, published by Jayadarini Trust (55331624) was released recently.
Garuda Sevai
The Garuda Sevai at Varadaraja Swami Temple, Sholingur, is scheduled to take place on May 13. Tirumanjanam of Moolavar and Utsavar will be in the morning and the Lord will be taken out in a procession on the Garuda vahanam in the evening.
Workshop
Alliance Francaise of Chennai will hold a series of programmes as part of the summer training programme at 24, College Road, Chennai during May and June.
A Workshop on `Scripting, filming and editing a documentary film' is being held till May 14.
This programme, under the guidance of a French journalist, Annie Bonniel, offers a rare opportunity to express one's ideas by way of narrating stories, writing synopsis, selecting new faces to act in a docu-film etc. and to learn in detail all about documentary film.

Laksharchanai
Mahalakshmi temple (Ashtalakshmi temple), Besant Nagar, is performing annual Laksharchanai from May 11 to 13, to coincide with Chitra Pournami.
