Music festival

About 55 artistes from all over Bangalore will perform at the Ananya Sangeetotsava

Ananya Sangeetotsava, the annual music festival of Ananya is on in the city this week. The festival features a series of concerts by about 55 meritorious young artistes at four different locations around the city — Ananya Sabhangana in Malleswaram, Sri Vani Vidya Kendra in Rajajinagar, Sri Rama Lalithakala Mandira in Banashankari 2nd Stage and Sri Ramanamaharshi Academy for the Blind in 3rd Phase J.P. Nagar.

The concerts at Ananya Sabhangana begin at 6.30 p.m. each day and feature vocal performances by Dattatreya Velankar on May 12 and R. Sathish on May 13. At Sri Vani Vidya Kendra the concerts begin at 6.30 p.m. each day. Indu and Lakshmi Nagaraj perform a vocal duet concert on May 12 and Ashwin performs on the veena on May 13. The concerts at Sri Rama Lalithakala Mandira begin at 6 p.m. each day. The event there features a flute concert by Chaitanya on May 12 and another vocal concert by Vinay Sharva on May 13. At Sri Ramanamaharshi Academy for the Blind concerts begin at 5.30 p.m. Amit Nadig performs on the flute on May 12 and Suchetan performs a vocal concert on May 13.

On the concluding day of the festival the organisation presents awards to deserving musicians. Violinist H.K. Narasimhamurthy receives the Ananya Puraskara, Dr. V.S. Sampathkumaracharya receives the Shastra Kausthubha and Kalavathy Avadhooth, S.V. Narayan, B.R. Srinivas and B.S. Purushottam receive the Ananya Yuva Puraskara. The awards ceremony, begins at 9.45 a.m. at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on Race Course Road and is followed by a vocal concert by Kalavathi Avadhooth and a multimedia presentation by B. Lakshmi on the Evolution of Music. An exhibition of portraits of young musicians titled Bhaava is also being held during the festival.
