Music Programmes
India International Centre featured a Hindustani vocal recital by Arindam Chakraborty from Kolkata, disciple of Pandit Jagadish Prasad Pandit and Alok Kumar Chattopadhyaya, besides Banglar Loka Geeti by Malabika Das from Kolkata. As part of the Summer Festival of Concerts, Ballets and Operas, the IIC also presented Beethoven's Symphony no: 9 "Choral" and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. Perhaps the most popular classical ballet film, "Swan Lake" was also presented earlier this week. The Centre also featured an interactive tabla solo by the well-known tabla virtuoso Anuradha Pal with Asif Ali on the sarangi.
Foreign Films
While the Italian Embassy Cultural Institute presented the Italian film "Nemmeno Il Destino" (Changing Destiny), directed by Daniele Gaglianone, Alliance Francaise de Delhi presented the French film "La Dilettante", directed by Pascal Thomas. This film's lead actress, Catherine Frot, won the best actress award at the Moscow International Film Festival, 1999. She was also nominated for Best Actress at the Cesar awards, France 2000. The film was nominated for the Golden St. George award for best direction.
Art Exhibitions
Some of the art exhibitions that concluded recently were: Megan Ward's collection of original handicrafts by her organisation, Passion Prints at the Visual Arts Gallery; an exhibition of paintings by Rupchand Kundu, Woman and the Nature, at the Palm Court Gallery; and an exhibition by India Picture, Kashmir Views, showcasing photographs by Ram Chand Mehta.
