Sushma Reddy says all her career moves have been accidental.
People mind eating their words, but Sushma Reddy loves the experience. The popular model and veejay all along maintained that cinema is not her cup of tea but today her cup is full of film offers. Recently she made her debut in "Chocolate", this Friday she would be seen in Priyadarshan's "Chup Chup Ke".
"I didn't want to join films during the initial phase of my modelling career because I didn't find myself cut out for the cinema that was being made at that time. Today in the multiplex boom, different issues are being tackled. I thought what's the harm is eating one's own words," laughs Sushma.
She quickly adds, "Also I never took any of my careers - be it modelling or veejaying seriously. Coming from a highly-educated family, it was just accidental... not like today's 16-17 year olds who plan to become a model or veejay."
Sushma is the second of the three Reddy sisters who have been part of the glamour industry. She says it was Meghna, the eldest, who was really bitten by the bug. Before Sushma, Meghna also veejayed for Channel V, at times making fun of the Bollywood stuff, in her shows.
`Studious types'
"Sameera and I were studious types. Meghna always wanted to be in the glamour world and is doing some of the most prestigious campaigns in the U.S at the moment. Today she laughs at us calling the two of us Bollywood heroines."
Sushma's outlook about people who frequent Bollywood is no longer the same. "They are really sharp people who have a business like attitude towards their work." She doesn't buy the argument that models still can't act, it's the technique and the kind of stories that are being told today that make them fit into the picture.
"The success of John and Bipasha proves otherwise. I agree that those who have a theatre background have a definite edge for they grasp the subject and mould themselves easily otherwise there is no difference."
