Stargazing

MALATHI RANGARAJAN

Thrilling experience

The award at the recent Cyprus Film Festival has come as a shot in the arm for actor Jeeva. And it is egging him on to take up worthy projects and give them his best. His next release, `Aran, produced by dad R. B. Chowdhary. promises to be one such. Directed by ex-army man Major Ravi, who apprenticed under Priyadarshan, `Aran' has Mohanlal too. Both Mohanlal and Jeeva are army officers in the film. The unit has just returned after a 30-day stint in Kashmir and Jeeva can't stop talking about the experience. "More than the sound of the clap board it was the gun shots that were heard often on location. It was thrilling."

Action on ECR

`Kizhakku Kadarkarai Saalai' (East Coast Road) will be the next film from filmmaker S. S. Stanley and his third with Srikanth as hero. You catch up with Stanley at the shooting spot on ECR and helaughs: "It just happens that way. And honestly, we alsoshare a very good rapport. Nearly 40 per cent of the shooting is over. Most part of the story takes place on ECR. `Kizhakku ...' will be a healthy mix of romance, sentiment and action." Bhavna who created waves with `Chiththiram Paesudhadi,' is the leading lady. "I wanted to cast her even in my earlier film. But it didn't happen. Also Suresh, the yesteryear hero, is the villain," Stanley tells you.

New screen pair

Shiela, the young girl who played Surya's sister in `Nanda,' is the heroine of `Ilavattam.' And Navdeep, who ought to have gained much mileage from `Arindhum Ariyaamalum,' in which he was the hero, will probably get it now. A bilingual in Tamil and Telugu, the film finds Rajaraja, who has written the dialogue for many films, making his debut as director. "The pair looks good. And Mani Sharma's music will be another highlight, ," says the enthusiastic PRO.

Unique opportunity

Greatly impressed with director Thirumurugan's tele-serial, `Metti Oli,' Sathya Movies and Sathyajothi Films have elevated him to the big screen. `Sathyajothi' Thyagarajan is always known to have backed projects with solid stories. `Emdan Magan,' written and directed by Thirumurugan and starring Nasser, Bharat and Gopika is progressing at a fast pace.
