Let truth triumph

The play `Satya Harischandra' was well enacted and drew appreciation from the audience.

ON STAGE A scene from the play

The 143rd monthly schedule of Sri Saikalaniketan organising the staging of a poetic drama (social/historical/ mythological) every second Friday, featured the most popular play, Satya Harischandra, at Prema Samajam Hall last week.

Coordinated by its President Chowdary Appa Rao, many a time Nandi award winner, secretary B.V.A Naidu, active members S. Rajaratnam, Ganta appala Naidu, Cheekati Rama Rao and N. Simhadri, the play was presented under the aegis of the Niketan itself.

The episodes depicting the selling of Harischandra'wife followed by the auctioning of the king himself as a slave by Nakshatraka, the disciple of sage Viswamitra and the pitiable plight of the slaves turned queen and the king in the popularly called Kaati Seenu (the scene of crematorium) stood out as usual.

Nandi award winner B.R. Ch. Naidu as Viswamitra, best actor prize winner in many a parishat, Chappa Appa Rao from Rajam as Harischandra, noted actress B. Kumari from the village Enduva in Srikakulam district as Chandramathi and P. Akkala Naidu who is popularly called melody master as Nakshatraka lived their roles.

T. Dali Naidu as Kalakousika and Veerababu, G.S. Reddy as Kesavudu, Master S. Prasad as Lohitaasya, were the others in the cast who contributed grandeur with their empathetic portrayals.

N. Prasada Rao, Bagadi Vijaya Saradhi and G. Sivaji Ganesh playing on harmonium in turns and Noor Saheb on tabla proved to be assets.

The other credits like stage decoration, management, make-up and lighting were well shared by G.A. Naidu, D. Jagga Rao and R. Kesav Raju.
