IN AND AROUND THE CITY: Pori
Here is a film shot only in Chennai. The distinction goes to Subramania Siva, director of ``Thiruda Thirudi." To digress a bit, where was he all these years? ``Busy making the Telugu version, `Donga Dongadi,'" comes the reply.
We catch up with him at Avana Garden (near the IG office) on the Marina where he is briefing Jeeva and Pooja, lead pair of ``Pori," which translates as `trap.'
"We shot for nearly three weeks at the AVM studio. The set that of a street, cost Rs. 25 lakhs. Called Bharatiyar Street, it is a vital link as much of the action takes place there. The hero owns a book shop, Periyar Puthaga Nilayam, and finds himself in the thick of events that happen fast.
"The script doesn't need a foreign location and I wasn't keen on imposing a situation. We have shot in and around Besant Nagar, K. K. Nagar, Ashok Nagar and other places and there are some places hitherto unseen by the camera," Siva says.
Jeeva is all smiles. "It is a good subject and the director has done a good job with the screenplay and dialogue. I feel that I am in safe hands," he says. Pooja thinks `Pori' will be a turning point in her career.
And is there a song on the lines of the famous "Manmatharasa?" Of course, yes. `Jigina Natandhu Vantha Podhukootam... ' goes the lyric.
The cast includes Karunas, Delhi Ganesh, Nagesh, `Ghana' Ulaganathan and `Kadhal' Dhandapani.
Ekambaram handles the camera and Dhina scores the music. Antony does the editing and G.K. does the artwork.
Subramania Siva has taken care of the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction.
The film is produced by Sambandam and Karthik for Nivi Pavi Creations.
