`"Krrish" will be a trendsetter'

Hrithik Roshan in "Krrish."

Craig Mumma, the man behind the scene, exchanges his views about the film, the technology and much more. Excerpts from the interview:

What actually inspired you to accept a project in India?

Well, it was a challenge. When Rakesh Roshan approached me with his story, I knew it involved some mind blowing, world standard VFX work. And we had to keep various things in mind, such as budget, capability and infrastructure. I decided to take the plunge.

Then we started looking out for studios and our search stopped at Prasad EFX, Chennai. I've learnt from experience that EFX delivers the goods. Our calculation didn't go wrong in the case of "Krrish." And the technology gave me the freedom to work without the interference of the management. It is a great boon to a creative person.

Would "Krrish" be a trendsetter in VFX?

The best thing about "Krrish" is that you have a film company that is taking Indian cinema more and more to world cinema levels. "Krrish" will be a trendsetter in the sense that it has brought different specialists from around the world like me, Marc, action director Tony Ching, and others. We put our heads together and translated our ideas on to the screen.

Do you see a change

happening in filmmaking in India?

Yes. High voltage action, state-of-the-art technology and tools, a passion for the art and the convergence of skills across the globe, yes, Indian cinema is moving forward.

Can you mention some memorable VFX shots from "Krrish"?

There was this shot with Hrithik jumping through a truck cabin and its trailer with the camera following him. It was very risky and Hirthik Roshan did it himself.

We shot the truck cabin with Hrithik going through as planned with the camera behind him and later added the trailer in the studio at EFX.

Another scene is where he jumps from building to building. Then the circus scenes... the list is long. This project has left me with a host of memories.
