Monkey business -- Spymate

Spymate.

Spymate
Genre: Adventure
Director: Robert Vince
Cast:: Chris Potter, Emma
Roberts, Richard Kind, Musetta Vander and Pat Morita.
Storyline: Minkey the chimpanzee and partner Mike join to save his daughter Amelia and the world.
Bottomline: Good action, lopsided drama

Looking for `Finding Nemo' here? Or even `Monster's Inc.'? You might as well wait for eternity, for `Spymate' is everything that these films were not: It does not have the overpowering emotional appeal of `Nemo' nor the little delights of `Monsters.' However, that does not necessarily mean `Spymate' is a forgettable exercise. A story of a chimpanzee spy who has a human partner, `Spymate' is a film that could have had its audiences in a thrall. The story of a missing girl in Japan following the kidnap drama masterminded by the scientist who is supposed to honour her for her unusual talent, it could have been a nice emotional ride with the father looking for his daughter, and the little monkey, quite adorable with his suits, ties and sunglasses, helping him on.

Yet director Robert Vince is not able to deliver. Simply because there are too many extraneous elements introduced, the focus often is on action and special effects. The little girl, Amelia, and the intelligent monkey both become incidental to a drama reduced to just good guy versus bad guys.
