Divine music

Mantra chanting box

Chennai-based Applied Data Systems has launched `Divine Life' Ultimate Chanting Box, a two-and-a-half hour chanting box of songs and 21 mantras.

Unlike the traditional chanting boxes, the Divine Life box comes with the full version of chants such as Suprabatham, Vishnu Sahasranamam, Mahisasura Mardhini, Kandasasti Kavacham, Lingastakam, etc. It has Gayathri manthram, Mrityunja Manthram and Dhanvanthri Manthram. R.D.Burman special

Aalaap, a musical team comprising singers and musicians from Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kochi will be presenting its first edition of `Evergreen Notes' on July 2 at the Music Academy. The programme will feature 30 most popular and lively numbers by musicians from Calicut, Chennai and Hyderabad, composed by R.D.Burman and rendered by Usha Timothy from Mumbai along with Pramod, Ramesh, Anand, Jaya and others. Competition

Book release

Dr. Srivatsa, music and Sanskrit scholar, will release Dr. Lalitha Ramakrishna's `Kriti Samskriti' on June 30, 6 p.m. at Narada Gana Sabha. Aruna Sairam will receive the first copy. The function will be followed by Aruna Sairam's concert.

Dance festival

Sri Ragam Fine Arts has organised Balasaraswathi Memorial 11th year dance festival for five days, July 1-5, at Raga Sudha Hall, Mylapore. D. Chandrasekaran, Tamil Nadu State Election commissioner will preside and confer the `Balasaraswathi Memorial Award' to N. Anusha, Delhi Aarthi Shankar and Meenakshi Ragavan at the function to begin at 6 p.m.

Anniversary

Dr. MLV Rasikar Manram is celebrating Dr. MLV Day on July 1, 4 p.m. at Dakshinamurthy auditorium, PSHS School, Mandaveli. Maruthi Prasad will give a concert at 4 p.m. There will also be a musical discourse by Visaka Hari.

Ph.D. in Music

Title for artiste

Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha is inaugurating a drama festival on July 1, 5.45 p.m. at Mylapore Fine Arts Club Hall, Mylapore. AVM. Saravanan presides and K. Balachander inaugurates the festival. The title, `Nataka Kalasarathy' will be conferred on theatre artiste Raadhu by Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti.

Kumbabhishekam

The Maha Kumbabhishekam of Sri Navanidhi Selva Vinayagar Temple, Mahalingapuram, will be performed on July 2, between 5.50 and 7.15 a.m. The religious events, which began on June 28, include yagasalai pujas on June 30 (today) and July 1 at 8 a.m. On July 2 the pujas begin at 4.30 a.m. Donations may be sent as cheque/DD, payable at Chennai, and drawn in favour of Navanidhi Selva Vinayagar Temple and sent to Mahalingapuram Baktha Samajam, Mahalingapuram Main Road, Chennai — 600 034.

Samprokshanam

The Samprokshanam of the Rajagopuram of Sri Ennaipetra Thayar Sametha Sri Bhaktavatsala Perumal temple, Tiruninravur, is scheduled to take place on July 2 at 9.10 a.m. Thanga Garuda Sevai will take place at 7 p.m. the same day.

Samprokshanam is also scheduled to take place at Sridevi Bhoomidevi Sametha Sri Neelamanicka Perumal temple, Siruseri, Chingleput, Kanchipuram, on July 2, 6 a.m. Tirukkalyana Utsavam will be performed after samprokshanam, at 4 p.m. Funds are needed for the renovation, construction of new shrines, etc. The total cost of all the above works has been estimated at Rs. 15 lakhs. The Maha Samprokshanam at Sri Sundaravalli Nayika Samedha Sri Sundara Varada Swamy Temple, Kaveripakkam, will be performed on July 2, between 6.52 and 9.08 a.m. Kaveripakkam is 100 km. from Chennai, on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway. Most part of the temple is in very bad condition. At present, the shrines of Sri Rama, the Azhwars and the Acharyas alone have been renovated and consecration will take place.

Funds are needed to restore the Sri Perumal shrine, vimanam, madapalli and temple tank in order. Sudarshana Jayanthi

Sri Lakshmi Nrusimha Navaneethakrishnan Temple, MMTC Colony, Nanganallur, is celebrating Sri Sudarshana Jayanthi Utsavam on July 4 and 5. Special homams and pujas will start in the morning. The deity will be adorned with special alankaram and taken out in a procession on Wednesday.

Sudharsana Maha Yagam

Sanathana Dharma Paripalana Sabha, Aanmeeka Alayam, Kannaiyan Colony, Erode, has organised Sudharsana Maha Yagam, 7 a.m.-1p.m., on July 4 (20th day of the Tamil month of Aani), birth star of Sri Sudharsana. Celebration

Sri Virupaksheeswarar temple, Mylapore is celebrating the 12th anniversary of its Kumbabhishekam on July 3. Special abishekam will take place at 9 a.m. The deities will be taken out in a procession at 7 p.m.

Gold kavacham

The presiding deity (moolavar) of Sri Oppiliappan Koil, near Kumbakonam, is to be adorned with gold `kavacham,' weighing 41 kg. Contributions may be sent to: Executive Officer, Venkatachalapathy Swamy Temple, Oppiliappan Koil, Tirunageswaram-612204.
