RAMAYANA TALES: A scene from `Jadayuvadhankam.'
Rasikas in Thiruvananthapuram were treated to `Ascharyachoodamani' Koodiyattom written by Sakthi Bhadran. It was organised in connection with the monthly training sessions for the artistes of Margi.
Showcasing talent
The performers depicted `Jadayuvadhankam,' the fourth scene of the play. The play starts with the journey of Maya Rama, Maya Lakshmana and Sita. Ravana, who is disguised as Rama, convinces Sita that Bharata needs his help and persuades Sita to travel with him. However, when an amorous Ravana tries to touch Sita, she sees through his disguise.
Margi Rama Chakyar, an up-and-coming performer in Koodiyattam, portrayed the lead role of Rama. He maintained the rhythm and tempo of the character from start to finish. The `padappurappad,' which was enacted when the news from Bharatha arrived, displayed his calibre. The fight sequence with `Airavatha' and the scenes portraying an amorous Ravana were well executed.
Kalamandalam Raveendran played Lakshamana and Margi Usha was Sita. Kalamandalam Unnikrishnan Nambiar, senior percussionist of Margi, along with Margi Ramanunni and Harish Nambiar on the mizhavu, supported the artistes.
