CHARMING VOICE: Preethy Sathish is a lecturer in music.
Her mellifluous voice charmed the listeners who attended the monthly programme organised by Edappally Sangeetha Sadas. Preethy Sathish started the concert with a varnam in Abhogi, Adi tala.
After a brief sketch of `Arabhi,' she sang the slokam `Gajananam' followed by the kirthanam `Srimahaganapathi' composed by her guru N.P. Ramaswami. Preethy then rendered `Venu ganamurthe' by Tyagaraja. `Mamava sada varade' in Natakurinji and the popular `Gopalaka Pahiman' in Revagupti were well received by the audience.
Scintillating thani
`Subha Panduvarali,' which was selected as the centrepiece of the event, unfurled in myriad shades as Preethy delineated this raga in all its intricacies. `Sri Sathyanarayana,' a Dikshitar kriti in Rupakam (randa kala chowkam), was executed. Krishnakumar on the mridangam played a scintillating thani in this unusual thalam.
`Mokshamukalada' in Saramathi and `Raghuvamsa sudha' in Kadanakuthoohalam followed next.
Preethy then elaborated `Bhairavi' in a captivating layout for the ragam thanam Pallavi, `Neerajakshi Kamakshi' (Ata thalam - samathil edupu) was well sung.
Preethy concluded her recital with a few bhajans and a Balamurali thillana.
Thiruvizha Viju S.Anand played the violin with zest supporting the vocalist well. Krishnakumar on the percussion was excellent.
A lecturer in music at Sree Sankara University, Kalady, Preethy was initiated into music at the age of 10 by Cherthala Narayana Iyer.
She later studied under K. Omanakutty and N.P. Ramaswamy.
