Hema Narayanan
Shaam-E-Baharan, a ghazal, qawwali and mushaira concerts organised by the Department of Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh, presented a ghazal, concert of Hema Narayanan, a young artiste from Delhi here recently. Hailing from a musical family, her classical base is strong. Her grandfather, V. Krishna Murthy, was a well-known Carnatic vocalist from Mumbai and her mother, Malathi Narayanan, also a Carnatic vocalist from Delhi.
Hema is a postgraduate in Hindustani classical vocal from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak.
She has given various concerts in classical Hindustani music, ghazals and bhajans.
The highlight of her concert were the two numbers Chal Mere Saath Hi Chal and Ghata Phir Aai Hai. However, at times she went off key and rhythm. On the whole she is a singer to be watched for many more laurels in years to come.
The accompanists did not seem to have prior rehearsal with the artiste, as both the sitar and harmonistwere going away from the base raag the artiste was singing.
Harjeet Singh on the tabla, Yakub Ali ( harmonium) and Nand Kumar (sitar) accompanied the artiste.
