Winner of many an award from noted music bodies like Naradagana Sabha of Chennai, Kalasaagaram of Secunderabad and Saradagaana Sabha of Ongole, Bhamidipati Lalitha Madhav of Hyderabad sang at Kalabharathi for Visakha Music and Dance Academy last Friday.

Musical treat

Melodious and evocative rendering of rarely heard compositions like the Varnam in Hindolam of Dr. Sripada Pinakipani, Madhurapuri Kalyani of GNB (Purvikalyani), which she meaningfully elaborated, Ikanannubrova of Pallavi Seshayyar (Bhairavi) which she expansively expatiated adroitly, Avadhaaru Raghupathe of Annamayya set to music in Khamas, Rase Harimiha of Jayadeva in Karnaranjani and Narajanma Bandaga of Purandara Dasa in Misra Madhuvanthi with which she concluded sustaining audience interest all through marked her recital. Her expression of Manodharma replete with flashes of the tenor and tempo, which she imbibed from her reputed gurus like Sangeetha Samrat M.S. Balasubrahmanya Sarma (Ongole) and Suguna Purushottamam (Chennai), attracted appreciative applauses repeatedly.

Vedavathi Ganesh and Mandapaka Nagalakshmi accompanying on violin and mridangam lent excellent support. Vedavathi in her turns, and Lakshmi executing a sublimely structured thani in particular contributed grandeur.

The premises of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba temple in East Point Colony witnessed another scintillating recital, this time by noted vocalist Dr. Dwaram V.K.G. Thyagaraju, last Thursday. He was ably accompanied on violin by KVS Prasad and mridangam by G. Venkatarao.

Vandeham Jagatvallabham of Annamayya (Hamsadhvani) embellished with invigorative aalapana and swaram, exquisite elaboration of Vidamuseyave (Kharaharapriya) and Sivasivasiva yanarada (Pantuvarali) and devout rendering of Ganapathe Mahamathe (Ghurjhari) were the highlights.
