Sri Varadharaja Swami temple in Thakkankulam, Sholinghur has got a facelift and is ready for samprokshanam on August 20.
The temple town Sholinghur, also known as `Thirukadigai,' is one of the 108 Vaishnava shrines.
According to legend, devotee Doddacharya, who was a regular visitor to Kanchipuram Varadharajar temple, was not able to make it to Kanchipuram on the third day of Vaikasi utsavam.
To fulfil the wishes of His devotee, the Lord excused Himself from the archakas of Kanchipuram and with adorned with Garuda as mount, gave darshan to Doddacharya.
The third day's utsavam at the Kanchipuram Varadaraja temple is referred to as `Doddacharya Sevai'.
The temple has been renovated and a vimanam has been constructed atop the shrine of the main deity at a cost of Rs. 2.5 lakhs.
New look
The prakarams and the roof of the temple are wearing a new look with a coat of paint.
All the renovation works are being carried out in an aesthetic manner.
Special Tirumanjanam is scheduled for all the deities on August 19 and Samprokshanam will take place between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on August 20.
