Stargazing
Moustache magic
Shankar and his team have embarked on a novel idea to keep their cash registers ringing. Beginning August 15, for five days, 50 lucky children watching S Pictures' `Imsai Arasan _' at the Chennai theatres are being given `Pulikesi' moustaches, like the one Vadivelu sports in the film. "Just like `Superman' outfits and `Spiderman' masks attract children, we felt this could find many takers. If we can get ready more such moustaches made with rubber moulds, we plan to extend the offer to many more kids," says the film's director Simbudevan. A cartoonist himself, even when it appeared in print Simbhudevan had given his `Pulikesi' the unique moustache and translated the same into screen. "The idea has proved a draw," he smiles.
In London
Shooting for the Selva directed `Nenjil Jill Jill,' with Navdeep and Aparna in the lead, is over and postproduction work is going on in full swing. It's not just duets _ several scenes have been shot with London as backdrop. "The unit camped there for nearly 35 days. But only one song sequence was canned in London. Talkie portions were shot for the rest of the schedule. The other songs will have Chennai, Kerala and Mettur as background" says the PRO of `Nenjil _' Selva's ventures include `Thalaivaasal' and the Arvind Swami film, `Pudhaiyal.' "He's an experienced maker. He has 18 films to his credit," says the PRO.
The next step
Lingusamy, the creator of hits such as `Anandam,' `Run' and `Sandakkozhi,' turns producer with `Deepavali,' being made by Ezhil and starring `Jayam' Ravi and Bhavna, even as he is busy directing Vikram for `Bheema.' Soft romantic themes have been director Ezhil's forte. `Thulladha Manamum Thullum' with Vijay and `Poovellam Un Vaasam' with Ajit are examples. A huge set has been erected at Royapuram to capture the atmosphere of a congested area where shooting has been going on for nearly 40 days at a stretch.
Titles matter
R. Balu, the man who directed gentle romances such as `Kaalamellaam Kaadhal Vaazhga' and `Unnudan,' with Murali as hero, has begun shooting for a film called `Dating.' Monika, the heroine of the recent super hit, `Imsai Arasan, Pulikesi 23rd, stars opposite newcomer Akil. With filmmakers hastily switching over to chaste Tamil titles, Balu, who had named his films in Tamil earlier, is bound to have a change of heart soon.
