Gandhinagar Gossip

Kalagnani music release

A film Kalagnani, based on the life and teachings of Nostradamus of Karnataka, Sri Narayanappa - popularly known as Kaivara Thataiah - was released in a jam-packed Jhansi Playground at Chintamani on last Saturday. The union minister K. H. Muniyappa released the CD and cassette of the film. Dharmadhikari of religious centre, M.R. Jayaram, local MLA Sudhakara Reddy, former MLA Sampangi, actor Saikumar who plays the title role, noted director Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar were present on the occasion. The Bangalore film media that went to cover the assignment had a horrible time trying to get inside the venue of the function. A freelance photographer even fell down from one side of the stage, which caused sufficient damage to his lens.

Predictions go topsy-turvy

The much-hyped Kannada film Gandugali Kumara Rama made at a whopping cost of Rs. 8 crore by producer M.R. Pattabhiram has been disastrous at the box office. The producer calls a press meet to disclose this piece of information. He wonders even now why the film has not returned his investment. It is a catastrophe at the box office. "I intended to get just one rupee over the investment not anything more than that." But Gandugali Kumara Rama the historical film has been a total failure. Certainly the film has not done well avers Pattabhiram. Perhaps none of the producer in the history of Kannada cinema at the second week of the release has been so outspoken.

Runaway hit

Ramesh Krishna has consolidated his position as a flautist working with senior music directors in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu since 1988.

He has been conductor of music of the blockbuster Kannada film Yajamana. He knows Carnatic, western, Hindustani, and is comfortable on the keyboard. His recent film Neenello Naanalle is a very big hit at the box office. His V3 troupe, comprising of a guitarist, flautist and drummer, they give private programs. For Ramesh Krishna, the music maestro Ilayaraja is the model.

Music in motion

Noted journalist and director of three consecutive hit films Thuntaata, Lankesh Patrike, Monalisa - Indrajith Lankesh for his new venture Aishwarya has struck with another idea to promote the film and its songs.

He has handed over the karaoke tracks of the film Aishwarya to all the orchestra troupes in Karnataka to popularise the songs in the coming months. This is a new attempt say leading orchestra singers like Gururaj, Mohan, Madal Mallu, Joseph and others at a get together party recently. Any new idea to promote his product Indrajith Lankesh does not hesistate. He believes the publicity and preparation of the audience is very important for the box office collection.

Taking it in her stride

The up and coming actress in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films, Sridevika seems extremely practical in her approach. The career span of a heroine is very short and therefore with plans of improving her qualification has enrolled herself for an MBA by correspondence from Hyderabad University. I don't want to rely on this profession, she says with total clarity.

The lovely Sridevika, who started off her career with the Tamil film Ramakrishna is now in Kshana Kshana (directed by Sunilkumar Desai starring Audhitya), Santha (starring Shivarajkumar) and Neelakanta (Ravichandran) Kannada films. She is also in two Tamil films Avan Chandi and Red Salute.

She has been the cynosure of Kannada film My Autograph wherein she plays the Malayali girl and the song "Malli Hudugi... ." Daughter of an agriculturist Sridevika firmly believes that artist profession is short living.
