A fable, mysterious and witty

Emma Thompson, who has the unique honour of having won Oscars for both screenplay and acting, returns to writing with her adaptation of the `Nurse Matilda' books by Christianna Brand. `Nanny McPhee,' a comedy directed by Kirk Jones, has Thompson in the title role. The cast includes Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald, and Angela Lansbury.

As a person with magical powers, Nanny McPhee (Thompson) enters the household of widower Brown (Firth) and tames his seven unruly children. Their terrible behaviour suddenly leads to startling and rather inexplicable consequences! Slowly McPhee begins to exert influence on the deeper problems concerning the household.
