Pandit Venkatesh Godkhindi's recital was based on the traditional style.
|
Badruka School of music and dance and Guruwar Mandal, Hyderabad jointly organised a flute recital of Pandit Venkatesh Godkhindi.Pt. Venkatesh is a retired station director of All India Radio, Dharwad and well-known flautist and vocalist. His performance on the flute takes us back to the traditional style of flute playing. He innovated the instrument to his liking and developed additional blower holes for better impact, especially the Meend effect. He began his concert with Raag Marwa set to teen tal. The next raag Saraswati was set to Rudra Tal (eleven beats), in Vilambit Ghat and teen tal in drut and this was the highlight of the concert. He followed it with the popular evening raag Yaman again set to teen tal.
He then performed a Thumri dhun and concluded his concert with raag Bhairavi.
He was accompanied on the tabla by local young artiste Samrat Kakkeri. He did his best to follow the senior artiste and showed good promise. On the whole it was a pleasant flute recital of the evening.
