The feminine has been a source of inspiration for painters, sculptures and artists since time immemorial. This time it is sculptor and painter Keshav Roy who took inspiration from her and came out with a collection of his creations in nude, aptly titled Nudescape. The exhibition, curated by Uma Nair was held at Gallery 302, Defence colony which was just concluded. Artistes like Vinod Sharma, Manav Gupta and sculptor Sushank Kumar were present on the occasion.
Many attributes
Keshav Roy was seen enthusiastic about his works. When asked why he chose a subject like nudity for his paintings, he said, "I wanted to capture the infinite movements and postures of the female form. And paintings based on such subjects are much sought after in the West. I am just trying to show the naked truth. People should enjoy all forms of art and should not . limit art. We are bound by a strong Indian culture that we can't ignore. This is going to change with time. My paintings try to capture the eternal feminine, her beauty, her subtle, tantalizing and overpowering simplicity. She is the protective mother, the way mother nature is. We lived protected in her womb before she brought us in this world. She is also an avid lover, compassionate and caring. She is a symbol of passion, sacrifice and loyalty."
He also talked about his plans. "I am going on a world tour with the same exhibition. Itwill start from Kolkata and will end with an exhibition called "Art of Giving". All the funds from this would be donated to support underprivileged children."
Uma Nair said about the painter, "He is one of the few artists who can seriously talk about his paintings. He is bold in his attitude and can't withhold his artistic expressions within himself." Sushank Kumar, a sculptor, appreciating Roy, said, "He has all the attributes of a great painter and he is technically very correct."
