Honour for artistes
Sadguru Gnanananda Sangeet Sammelan and Narada Gana Sabha Trust have organised a four-day programme from September 1-4, in which eminent musicians will take part. On Monday, at the Sangeetha Vidwat Sadas, 6 p.m., P. S. Narayanaswami will confer the title Acharya Sreshta on T. R. Subramaniam and Sangeethamani on Vaikom Gopalakrishnan. T. Rukmini and Tiruchi R. Thayumanavan will be the honouring vidwans. This will be followed by a concert of Sudha Raghunathan.
Sri Rama Bhaktha Jana Samaj, K. K. Nagar will confer the title, `Sangeetha Mamani' on Kunnakkudi R. Vaidyanathan, on the inaugural day of their music festival (December 17).
Brahma Gana Sabha, Mylapore, is conferring the title, `Gaana Padmam' on Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman, `Natya Padmam' on Sudharani Raghupathy and `Nataka Padmam' on Koothapiran during the December festival.
The Mylapore Fine Arts Club will confer the title, `Nrithya Kala Nipuna' on Bharatanatyam exponent Chitra Visweswaran during the inauguration of December Music Festival on December 13. The award carries a cash award, a citation, gold medal and a shawl.
Sangeetholsavam
Guruvayur Devaswom will organise its Sangeetholsavam (music festival) from November 17-December 1. Applications will be available at the Devaswom office from September 1-25. The last date for receiving filled-in applications is September 30. Applications may be obtained by post by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope for Rs. 5 before September 15. The form can also be downloaded from the Devaswom website, www.guruvayur devaswom.com. AIR artistes of b-high grade or above in Carnatic music may apply on their own letter pads enclosing copies of the certificates concerned.
Thani Aavarthanam
Chaapu Thalams will be the theme of the thani avarthanam programme that M.N.Hariharan (Swaralaya) and his disciples M.S.Suriya Narayanan and T. Sampath, will present at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, on September 2, 6.30 p.m. Master M. Balamuralikrishna (vocal) and Kumbakonam A. Gajendran (pallavi sahityam) will perform.
Abhang
Sri Tukaram Ganapathi will sing abhangs on September 4, 6.30 p.m. at Sri Dakshinamurthi auditorium, PSHS School, R.K.Mutt Road, Mylapore.
Felicitation
Sri V. Narayana Iyer Memorial Trust, Anna Nagar (Ph: 2621 2454/2621 3504) is conferring the title, `Vidya Vachaspathi' on Tukaram Ganapathi at Asthika Samajam, Alwarpet, on September 3, 5.30 p.m. Tukaram Ganapathi will present `Bhakti Margam' comprising sampradaya bhajans.
Navaratri utsavam
Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam, No. 1, Kambar Street, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Selaiyur (044-2229 0134/2229 3388) is celebrating Sarada Navaratri, September 23-October 2. Chandi Maha Yagnam will take place on all days apart from Go puja, homams, abishekam, anna daanam and special pujas. The deity Bhuvaneswari will be adorned with different alankarams on all days. Devotees who wish to take part in the above pujas may do so by paying the amount in the form of cheque/DD/MO favouring secretary, Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam.

Sri Ramanjaneyar temple, Tambaram Sanatorium, will celebrate Pavithrotsavam from September 4 to 8. Maha Purnahuthi will be on Sep. 7, 7 p.m.
