Sarada Subramanyam.
Sarada Subramanyam, daughter of I.V.L. Sastri, founder of Sangeeta Janakulam in Visakhapatnam and the guru of many talented musicians, gave an immensely enjoyable concert for Swarajhari at Sivaramakrishna Kshetram. Sarada did her post graduation in music by learning her advanced course under the tutelage of Sangeeta Kalanidhi Nedunuri Krishna Murthy. Sarada has a sweet and powerful voice that is felicitous in all the three octaves and she also had a large repertoire of compositions.
She started the concert with a varnam in Nata and followed it with Parvatipathim in Hamsadhvani, Nannuvidachi of Thyagaraja in Reetigowla and Sankara Srigiri of Swathi Thirunal in Hamsanandi. This keertana was marked with exhaustive raga alapana and fluent swara kalpana. The detailed delineation of Mohana was another outstanding item in Sarada's concert. She was ably supported by B.V. Durgabhavani on violin, N.S. Kalyanaraman on mridangam and I. Anjaneya Sastri on the ghatam. Sarada's concert was preceded by a short vocal recital by young and talented Tadanki Anupama. She lives in Irwin, California and is learning music from Vidushi Padma Kutti. Anupama began with Todi varnam and followed with Swaminadha in Nata, Sobhillu (Jaganmohini) and Ganamurthe in Ganamurthi. Her brief alapana before singing the composition Gopika Manoharam amply projected her talent. Anupama's concert came to a close with a couple of Annamacharya keertanas.
