PLAY ON A 12-hour non-stop Andhra Vaggeya Kara Sankeerthana Gana Yagnam.

S.S Music Academy recently organised a 12 hour non-stop Andhra Vaggeya Kara Sankeerthana Gana Yagnam at Ravindra Bharati, which was inaugurated by the director of Department of Culture, Dr. Kedareswari.

The director of the academy, G V Prabhakar started the yagnam with Thayagaraja Pancharatna Keerthanas and was joined by Seshayya Sastry, principal of Sri Thagaraja Government Music College; D V Mohana Krishna, AIR artiste, Uma Devi from Telugu University and various other music teachers. It was followed by non-stop recital by over 700 singers from 32 music schools in the twin cities.

The programme concluded with a Balamurali Krishna thillana (raga Kadana Kutuhalam) and Brahmma Mokkate keerthana, where even the audience joined the singers.

The chief guest of the programme M Satyanarayana Rao, minister for sports, cultural and cinematography appreciated the efforts. Dharamavarapu Subrahamanyam, president of the cultural council of A. P, Dr. Avula Manjulatha, Vice Chairman, Telugu University, Dr. Kedareswari and Deputy director of Culture Appa Rao participated in the concluding meeting and gave away the mementos to the participating groups.

Dance debut

Archana Dance Academy, USA; Vamsee International; International Federation of Cultural Organisations recently held the Kuchipudi dance debut of Shruti

Ambika Challa at Ravindra Bharati on September 4. Shruti, a student at Stanford University, has been trained under the tutelage of `Nritya Kala Shriomani' Uma Bharati who runs the Archana Dance Academy in Texas. The programme was graced by Dadasaheb Phalke awardee, Padma Bhushan Dr. Akkineni Nageshwara Rao and Jnanpeeth awardee, Padma Bhushan Dr. C. Narayana Reddy.

Accompanying her were Maddali Usha Gayatri on Nattuvangam, Srivalli Sarma on vocal, Sridharacharya on mridangam and K. Anil Kumar on flute.
