STARGAZING

Captain's `Sabari'

MALATHI RANGARAJAN

Work on Vijayakant's `Sabari,' has begun. Interestingly, the film has a few .rst time combos. Jyotirmayi, who acted opposite Sundar C. in `Thalainagaram,' is the heroine of `Sabari.' So also composer Mani Sharma and Vijayakant come together and that again is a rarity. "`Sabari' will be a very different film for me. The story impressed me a lot and that's why I accepted the project," the hero is said to have commented on why he accepted the film. Going by the stills the `captain' will sport a sober, classy look in the film.

Artistic obsession

Lawyer and auditor Rajpa Ravishankar, who is producing `Ajanta' (starring Ramana), is also playing an important role in the .lm. Pandiarajan and Balu Anand are the other character artistes who have signi.cant roles. Strangely, it is not just the .lm that is called `Ajanta.' The heroine also bears the same name! And stranger still, `Ajanta' is an Ellora Movie Club production!

From dance to direction

His mentor K. Balachander gave choreographer Raghavendra Lawrence a break as an actor in a signi.cant role in `Paarthaalae Paravasam.' And now Saran has brought Lawrence back from the Telugu industry where he has made a mark as director too. Lawrence is now directing Muni,' a Saran production, in which he also playing hero. Raj Kiran is doing an important role in the .lm. Why Lawrence? Says Saran: His directorial debut Telugu was a big hit. I realised his potential and making use of the little spare time he has before he embarks on his next Telugu project, (with Nagarjuna) I brought him here." `Muni's heroine is Vedika.

Looking completely different

During `Boys' he was quite obese ("110 kg," says the PRO.) and looked more like comedian than a hero. But now Nakul actor Devyani's brother) is almost unrecognisable. A trim, thin Nakul will play the lead in `Kaadhalil Vizhundhaen,' in which he is paired with Sunaina. Many in the industry are pleasantly surprised at the complete transformation in the new hero's looks. "He reminds you of actors like Jackie Chan," the PRO adds. `Kaadhalil _' also marks V. Prasad's debut as director. Prasad, who has assisted film makers V. Shekar and Azhagamperumal, takes off on his own with this film. Shooting commences on September 25, and locations will include Vizag and Bangkok.
