The long wait is over

A 7-year courtship and a marriage.

"I now need a break."jyothika

JOY FOR ALL The happy couple with Nagma, the bride's sister and Sivakumar, the groom's father.

From now on 9/11 is a memorable day for Suriya and Jyothika. The seven-year courtship is over. The two united in wedlock on that significant Monday morning. A day after their wedding at Hotel Park Sheraton in Chennai, the couple met media personnel to thank them for their support and understanding for not being able to invite them (the media) for the wedding due to security reasons. The bridegroom's father and veteran actor, Sivakumar, set the ball rolling by saying why they kept the media at bay. "With a four-decade standing in the industry, I always respected the press and you know about it. A fan of Suriya from Malaysia wanted to make a film with him. When it did not materialise,. he made bomb hoax calls. We informed the police when he sent us threatening letters that he would sabotage the marriage. Since we did not want to cause inconvenience to anybody and on the advice of the police, we shifted the venue where we could accommodate only 500 guests."

The newly wed have something common in their names too — Suriya means Sun and Jyothika, light. If she wore a designer pink kanjeevaram for the wedding, Jyothika chose a light green saree for the press conference.

Their latest movie, Sillanu Oru Kathal opened to packed houses just three days before the wedding. Its Telugu version, Nuvvu... Nenu... Prema is all set for release soon. Jyothika would not act anymore. "Not for now at least. We want to raise a family," Suriya said. Asked how it felt to be man and wife after a long wait, Suriya said: "it has been worth the wait. We wanted to get the consent of both the families.

We are going to stay with my parents like a joint family. In the upstairs a room is being renovated for the newly wed," he smiled. Echoing her husband's views on her quitting the tinsel world, Jyothika said: "I now need a break. I have been working for 10 years. I am fortunate to be part of good family." Surely, the audience will miss a good and sensible actor like Jyothika. The couple plan to spend their honeymoon in Europe.
