Throwing light on lighting

CHIAROSCURO V. K. Murthy lights the lamp

Karnataka Cinematographers' Association, Bangalore, held a day-long workshop on lighting for films and cinema last weekend. It was inaugurated by cinematographer known for his great work for Guru Dutt films, V.K. Murthy. G.S. Bhaskar gave an introduction to the workshop.

The workshop went on to show clips from several films, both Hollywood and Indian, and discussed how lighting was handled in them. An interesting part of it was interaction with V.K. Murthy.

Kannada films, including Amruthadhare, Sambrama, Shree and Nayi Neralu, were discussed with the respective cinematographers. Telefilms, television serials and ad films were also discussed. Among the prominent personalities present were directors Girish Kasaravalli and P. Sheshadri.

The workshop was held the Badami Hall, which held 165 participants against a capacity of 120. Certificates were given to the participants, and the President of the Association, S. Ramachandra, delivered vote of thanks.

Kannada channel ETV will telecast excerpts from the workshop on September 17 (Sunday), 8 p.m.
