Stargazing

MALATHI RANGARAJAN

Ajit and `Azhwar'

Storytelling sessions could be tedious for heroes. Especially when they turn out to be rigmarole that goes on for days on end. But when director Chella (S. J. Suryah's assistant) began to narrate his `Azhwar' tale to Ajit, the actor didn't budge from his seat until the entire two-hour telling was over. "So absorbed was he," says the PRO. "Generally, a hero would listen to the story till the intermission point, relax for a while and then get back to listen to the rest. But Ajit asked Chella to go on with the narration at one go," he adds. Reports such as these do raise expectations about `Azhwar.'

After `Eyarkai' it's `E'

The national award winning director of `Eyarkai,' Jananathan, is ready with his next release, `E,' which has Jeeva and Nayantara in the lead. Jananathan comes across as a serious thinker. Ask him about what inspired him to conceive the story of `E' and he says: "Any global happening, be it a development, a discovery or calamity, will have its amifications at every level. Such a thing is the inspiration for `E.' Jeeva was the kind of hero I had in mind. And when his father, R. B. Choudhary, heard the story, he decided to make it under his banner."

Chip off the old block

Directing 11 main characters can be a daunting task. But debut making director Venkat Prabhu is handling the film, `Chennai - 600028,' with efficiency and confidence, the PRO tells you. And interestingly Venkat Prabhu has not apprenticed under anyone. This son of the much talented Gangai Amaran could well prove to be a chip off the old block.

"I've observed my dad working on the sets and also learnt from other directors in whose projects I've acted. I'm putting all these to good use in this film,' Venkat tells me," says the PRO. S. P. Charan is the producer of `Chennai - 600028.

S Pictures' success

Expectations about S Pictures' `Veyil' are high. "Naturally, because the banner is into its fourth venture after three consecutive hits, `Mudhalvan,' `Kadhal' and `Imsai Arasan ...' says the film's publicist. Moreover, Shreya Reddy, who proved her potential in `Thimiru,' again dons a different role with Pasupathi as her pair in `Veyil.' It appears that Shreya is choosing her roles with care.

"She is not interested in run of the mill stuff," says her PRO. Thirdly, G.V. Prakash Kumar's songs are already a sell out, you hear. Shooting is over and rerecording is going on. `Veyil' will be released after Deepavali, you are told.
