Thirukkalyanam
Sri Venkateswara Bhaktha Samajam, Perambur, is conducting Sri Padmavathi Srinivasa Thirukkalyanam on September 30, 8.30 a.m., at Rail Kalyana Mandapam (near Perambur railway station). Festivities begin on Friday, 5 p.m. The deity will be adorned with special alankaram on Purattasi Sravanam (October 3).
Brahmotsavam
Brahmotsavam is on at Sri Prasanna Venkatachalapathi Perumal Temple, Gunaseelam, till October 5. The deity will be taken out in a procession on different vahanams on all days. There will be special alankaram and sevai on all days. The car festival will be on October 3.
Garudotsavam
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Information Centre, T. Nagar, is conducting the 10-day Srivari Brahmotsavam on the lines of the Tirupati templeGarudotsavam will take place on September 29, 9 p.m.
Pavitrotsavam
The 82nd Pavitrotsavam of Sri Srinivasaperumal at the Vedanta Desikar Temple will be held from October 6-12. Homams will be performed every morning at 8 a.m. and evening 8 p.m. Purnahuti falls on October 12 at 10 p.m. Scholars will chant Vedam and Tamil Pasuram everyday. For details, contact: 2495 3799.
Navaratri
Sri Bhuvaneswari Bhakta Mandali, Adambakkam, is celebrating the festival with pujas in the morning and music concerts in the evening. On September 29, Sudhir Warrier and group will render songs at 6.30 p.m., A. Bavadharini and group (Sept. 30), Master Saikrishnan (Oct. 1), and Anand S. Dikshit (Oct.2).
Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swami temple, Sholingur, is celebrating the utsavam till Oct. 2. Dolotsavam will also be celebrated from Oct. 3-5.
Music classes

Competition
Oothukadu Venkatakavi Academy Trust, No.7 (Old No.4), Mathala Narayanan Street, Mylapore, will host a four-day music festival from October 27 to 30 at R. K. Swamy Auditorium and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mini Hall. Music concerts of eminent artistes and discourse on Venkatakavi's Navavarna compositions will be featured during the fest. The Trust will also conduct vocal and flute competitions for those between the age group eight and 17 years on October 29 at Bhavan's Mini Hall. Festival
The Grand Revival Festival of Shanmukhapriya, a cultural wing of Swamy Publishers Educational and Charitable Trust, R. K. Mutt Road, is scheduled for September 30, 4.55 p.m. at Subbalakshmi Auditorium, Swamy's School, Santhosh Nagar, Porur. T. R. Subramaniam will inaugurate the festival. Disciples of A. Kanyakumari will give a violin recital at 6 p.m. Abaswaram Ramjhi's Isai Mazhalai will give a concert on Sunday (Oct. 1), 6 p.m. and Ghatam Karthick's Heat Beat Ensenble will perform the next day, 6 p.m.
Lec-dem series
Sampradaya presents a lec-dem series, in association with the TNK Foundation. The function will be inaugurated on October 4, 2006, at Ragasudha Hall. For the inaugural presentation, T.N.Krishnan will deal with Bhairavi.
Craft fair
National Art & Craft Fair is being held at 21/30, Community Hall, (opp. Kirtilal), C. P. Ramaswamy Street, R. A. Puram, Alwarpet till October 9. Artisans pertaining to the various crafts from all over the country will be present at the fair. A 20 per cent discount on handlooms and 10 per cent on handicrafts are being offered.
