Shanmatam — audio release

`Shanmatam — a Rhythmic Obeisance to the Almighty and His Six Forms,' D.A.Srinivas' maiden solo album, will be released on October 2, at 5.30 p.m., at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (main hall), Mylapore. Laya veteran Madurai T. Srinivasan will preside over the function. Guru Karaikkudi Mani will release the first copy and violin exponent V.S.Narasimhan will receive it. The audio release will be followed by a live presentation of `Shanmatam,' by D.A.Srinivas (6.30-8.30 p.m.)

Mridangam is the main percussion instrument used in `Shanmatam,' the others being tavil, tabla, chandai, tapes, rhythm, box, mridanga tarang and vachika layam are included in the instruments. Sharreth is the composer.

It was Adi Sanakra who classified the Hindu faith into six sects — Ganapatyam (devotees of Lord Ganapathi), Koumaram (Muruga), Souram (Sun), Shaktam (Shakti), Vainavam (Vishnu) and Saivam (Shiva). The album tackles each aspect through a popular kriti, stuti or slokam. Western classical and Carnatic come into play in ample measure in `Shanmatam.'
