Mridangam is the main percussion instrument used in `Shanmatam,' the others being tavil, tabla, chandai, tapes, rhythm, box, mridanga tarang and vachika layam are included in the instruments. Sharreth is the composer.
It was Adi Sanakra who classified the Hindu faith into six sects Ganapatyam (devotees of Lord Ganapathi), Koumaram (Muruga), Souram (Sun), Shaktam (Shakti), Vainavam (Vishnu) and Saivam (Shiva). The album tackles each aspect through a popular kriti, stuti or slokam. Western classical and Carnatic come into play in ample measure in `Shanmatam.'
