During the Dasara festival held at the Shri Sringeri Shanker Mutt, Nallakunta, Hyderabad, music and dance programmes were held by different troupes. One such programme was held last Friday, wherein the Uttara Centre for Arts, Hyderabad under the direction of Geeta Ganeshan, presented a dance ballet.
The dance ballet had themes all based on goddess Durga. The first one being the story of Maha Vishnu in yoga nidhra, while demons Madhu and Khaitaba emerge from the ear duct of Lord Vishnu, to kill Brahma, the creator of the universe. Vishnu wakes up and fights with the demons and kills them.
The second theme was Mahisasuramardhini. Asuras Shanka and Durga join Mahisha to wage war on `Swarga' . The defeated Devas, seeking solace, go to Brahma. Realising the need of the Trimurthi Shakti to emerge, Brahma leads them to Adhi Sakthi.
All pray to her for help and she appears before them as Parashakti and wages a war on the demons as Simhavahini. She kills Mahisha and gets the title Mahishasuramardhini.
The third theme was Goddess Devi killing the demons Chanda and Munda. Geeta Ganeshan and Suvarchala excelled in their portrayal of Parashakti and Goddess Durga. The other artistes who participated in the ballet were Amulya, Sushmita, Vaishnavi, Geeta Krishna, Sarita, Swetha, Manasvi, Tejaswini, Nisha, Sneha, Srikari,Arpita, Amruta,Varuni and others.
