Artistic and aesthetic

V. Nagabhushan presented his talented disciple B. S. Ramya in a neat and tidy Bharatanatya recital at the Ravindra Kalakshetra. It was the twelfth rangapravesha under his guidance. Blessed with a grace and fluid movements, Ramya displayed a high power of communication.

Inspired by a laudable accompaniment provided by Guru V. Nagabhushan (nattuvanga), Nandakumar (vocal), Madhusudan (violin), Venugopal (flute) and Tulasiram (mridanga), Ramya began with a traditional Pushpanjali and Ganesha stuti set to Nata raga and adi tala. She warmed up with this number. "Siddhi Vinayakam" in Shanmukhapriya by Muthuswamy Dikshitar eulogises Ganesha The import of the lyrics were conveyed through her abhinaya. The tandava and lasya movements and bhangis made Dayananda Saraswathi's krithi "Bho Shambho" a visual delight. She reveled in the delineation of Teriyur Rajagopal Sharma's varna ("Ninne nera nammi naanu ra"). A pleasing laya marked the first part of the varna and a racy pace enlivened the latter part.

The Kuchipudi performance by the dancer-couple Dr. Sanjay Shantharam and Shama Shantharam was perfect. Their performance at the Yavanika under EFCEP series was good. The opening traditional mela prapthi and poorva ranga vidhi followed by Shiva, Guru and Sabha vandane through a ranga shabda was of a high class.

The Krishna shabda drawn from "Vipra Narayana," a Yakshagana episode was the base for the portrayal of the greatness of Sri Krishna. "Sandhya tandava" brought out the vigour and vitality of Sanjay's dance.

The couple held the attention of the rasikas with their meticulous rendition of "Pati pranaya siddhi" or "Punyaka vratha" leading to the annihilation of Satyabhama's arrogance.

Veena Murthy Vijay and Praveen Kumar (nattuvanga), D. S. Srivatsa and Manasi Prasad (vocal), Vivek (flute) and Harsha Samaga (mridanga) added lustre.
