A cultural cauldron at its best

The three-day inter-zonal competitions presented a mix of dance, drama and music programmes.

PROVING METTLE All the plays had the telling effect

A three-day inter-zonal competitions in drama, dance and music held in VPT Kalavani auditorium and VUDA Children Theatre, marked the 31st annual cultural meet of the Sports and Cultural Organisation of the A.P. State Road Transport Corporation.

Vizianagaram zonal committee, which organised the event this year, proved its mettle drafting a well-designed plan and executing it meticulously. The amiable rapport between all categories of the staff of the large organisation was vital for the grandeur the fete achieved.

Seven short plays from different zones were staged at Kalavani. Competitions in mono action, mime, ventriloquism, dance and music in the classical, light, folk and orchestral format were held simultaneously at the Children Theatre.

Almost all the plays depicted with a telling effect the various hues of the motherland providing enough food for thought and evoked introspection.

Also being showcases of good histrionic talent individually and collectively by all actors, they sustained audience interest for most of the time. The playlet Baaboyi-Cellphone presented by a team of officers outside the arena of competitions, was a hilarious comedy but not without a message at the same time.

Amruthamtaagina Rakshasulu scripted by Srisaila Murty and directed by N. Saratkumar for the Hyderabad zone which bagged the best director, actor, supporting actor, comedian, child artiste and best actress prizes besides the second best for the script, got the best production prize. Aasalapallaki by the Vijayawada zone bagged the best actor, supporting actor and best director prizes were declared as the best production in the category of short plays. S.K.S.

Baji for acting the role Baba in the play Asidharavratham of Vijayawada zone and J.S.R. Anjaneyulu for acting the role of Sriramulu in the play Ammavodi of Nellore zone won the best character actor prizes.
