Durga Puja celebrations at Ranipet had both religious and patriotic flavour.

COLOURFUL: Durga Puja fest at Ranipet

The Vellore-Ranipet Cultural Committee has been organising Durga Puja at Vellore and Ranipet alternately for more than a decade now.

This year the celebration was held at the RC Auditorium, BHEL Indira Gandhi Township, Ranipet, from September 28 to October 2. Vidya Jayaram of Vedavalli Vidyalaya stole the show with her enchanting dances for the Bengali songs played, on the inaugural day.

The second day's show began with `pushpanjali' to Durga Devi. In the evening `Drishyan - Ekti Nritya Bhavana' was presented by BengalichoreographerKohinoor Sen Barat, in which Rahul Sinha, Debojit Mukherjee, Amrita Paul and Arpija Paul participated.

Thunderous applause

The programme for the day started with `Mahishasura Mardhini'.

The sequence where Goddess Durga killed Mahishasura was received with a thunderous applause.

Special guest R.N. Misra, Group General Manager, BHEL, BAP, Ranipet, said the show, transported the audience to Kolkata. Kalakshetra's dance ballet conducted by Uma Maheswari and her students was a colourful programme.

The special guest of that evening, Dharmendra Pratap Yadav, Collector, Vellore District, appreciated the Durga Puja celebrations, which also simultaneously laid stress on National Integration. The students of Uma Kala Kendra, Narasingapuram, presented a cultural show.

A good number of women participating in the utsav applied sindoor on the forehead of the deity of Goddess Durga.

Later, all the deities were taken in a procession from the BHEL Township to the Narasingapuram Tank nearby and immersed.

This was followed by `Shanthi Jal' (sprinkling of water).
