Competition

In connection with its annual music festival, Oothukadu Venkatakavi Academy Trust is conducting a music competition for boys and girls aged 8-17 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mini Hall, Mylapore, on October 29. Contestants will have to sing compositions of Venkatakavi. For details, contact: No. 4, Mathala Narayanan Street, Mylapore (Ph: 2464 2664).

Award

Narada Gana Sabha's music festival will be inaugurated on December 15 by Swami Gautamananda, president, Ramakrishna Math. Mridangam maestro T.K.Murthy will be conferred with the title, `Nadhabrahmam' and Ananthalakshmi Sadagopan will be honoured with the senior musician award.

Celebration

Special abishekam and Thirumanjanam will be performed to the deity at Arulmigu Mahalakshmi Temple, Besant Nagar, as part of Deepavali celebrations. It is believed that the celestial wedding of Mahavishnu and Mahalakshmi took place on that day. After viswaroopa darshan early in the morning, both the deities will be brought in a procession on October 21 at 3 p.m. to the prakara mandapam. The celestial wedding will take place after Lakshmi Kubera puja.

Festival

Skanda Sashti festival will be celebrated at Triplicane Murugan temple, Chennai, from Oct. 22-28. Surasamharam will take place on Oct. 27, 9 p.m. onwards. Tirukkalyanam, Annadanam and a procession of the deity are scheduled for Oct. 28.

The festival is also being celebrated at No. 21/14/6, Vijayalakshmi Street, Mahalingapuram (Ph: 2817 1884/4206 8878), October 21-27. Valli Kalyanam will take place on Oct. 29 at Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal Mandapam, 43, Noor Veerasamy Lane, Nungambakkam. Music programmes in this connection will take place at Sri Navanidhi Selva Vinayakar Temple, Mahalingapuram, at 6.30 p.m.
